The hundreds of amazing home DIY projects on Pinterest don’t lie. With just two basic materials, paint and fabric, you can easily update your home decor, even on a miniscule budget. So if you have an old lampshade or just can’t find one in the style you like, don’t be afraid to cover it up with a fresh fabric or paint it to reflect the latest color trends. I bought this lamp for $10 a while back with the intention of finding a fabric to cover it with for my office. I finally got around to choosing this Waverly Lovely Lattice Caviar fabric. I gave it an entirely different look in less than ten minutes. Here’s how:
1. Lay your fabric face down and use a ruler and pencil to mark about an inch from the top and bottom if the shade. Then wrap your fabric around your lampshade and mark so there’s a half inch to an inch overlap in fabric. This part’s important because I cut mine too short and it was a really tight fit around! Yes. Rookie. We know this already.
2. Cut your fabric according to your marks. If you have a geometric print like I had, you’ll want to make sure you have marked and cut pretty straight, or it will be noticeable once the fabric’s on the lampshade.
3. Spray or paint fabric glue all over the surface of your lamp shade.
4. Align in the middle and lay your shade down on the fabric. Slowly apply it, pressing along the outside, making sure it sticks onto the lampshade smoothly and straight. Done!
