Although there are four people in my family, only three stockings hang from our mantel each Christmas. The boys each have one and my husband and I share one. There’s nothing really special about them and they’re certainly not handmade. They’re actually from a little place called Ikea. Know it?

Don’t laugh, they actually have a pretty amazing Christmas and holiday decor selection each year. I remember when we got them so clearly. I was pregnant with my first son and his due date was getting close (early December.) I was all about walking, walking, walking, so to Ikea we went. We did, after all, have to grab a few last minute baby items–you know, a crib and whatnot! And at checkout I saw the above gray, red and white Scandinavian style stockings. These will do, I thought, and picked up three of them. But by the time our second little guy joined the family, Ikea didn’t carry them anymore, and I couldn’t bring myself to find some oddball stocking that wouldn’t work with the existing three. But it’s probably time now that we got a proper set of family stockings, don’t you think? But what style to go with? I adore these, for starters.
I also love the traditional style of these quilted Swiss cross quilted stockings by the talented Jaime of That’s My Letter, and how the crisp white and clean lines give them a modern feel at the same time.
Off to make some decisions. And if you’re looking to create some special ones for your family, head over to Jaime’s blog for a detailed Swiss cross stocking sewing tutorial.
